I've spent thirty answsering one question.
It started in OT school, in a lecture on rehabilitating incarcerated adults. I said out loud that we were discussing how to rehabilitate a population that had likely never been habilitated in the first place.
People shifted in their seats. I've been focused on research and intervention that addresses that gap ever since.Â
I'm Kathleen Lockyer, OT/L — thirty years as an occupational therapist, thirty years engaging with nature connection as an intervention. I'm the creator of the NatureLed™ Approach and the Ancestral Affordance Model, an AOTA Approved Provider, and the author of Wild Inside (foreword by Holly Ringland, endorsed by Richard Louv). I've presented for the Occupational Therapy Association of California, the Children & Nature Network, the Society for the Study of Occupation, California Audubon, First Five, and many others.
I first formally presented this material in 2015 at a state conference. Every yucky statistic I cited then has gotten worse since and the clinical argument for this model has only grown stronger.
